Trimming is a critical step in the evolution of a finished thermoformed part. Our trimming fixtures often command as much engineering attention as our primary tooling. Trimming fixtures are machined to match a part's molded surface and then plumbed for vacuum holes to provide positive, non-abrasive part hold down during trimming. Most trim is done on 5-axis, double table CNC routers capable of handling 5'x10' parts, 30" tall with tolerances down to +/-.005. The double tables enable the mounting of a second part while the first part is running, which accelerates part turns. 4 axis vertical mills are used where tighter tolerances are required.
MasterCam software is used to generate trim programming. Rev Levels are managed by central QA file control in a Windows NT environment.
First articles are 100% dimensionally inspected and programming is refined to ensure accurate repeatability. |
